Robert BurdsalContact this artist via the gallery.Robert Burdsal was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but soon moved to Flagstaff. He completed his degree in art at Northern Arizona University. The next years were spent teaching, honing, and connecting with artwork, galleries, and patrons. Although managing Art Departments and teaching were fulfilling, Robert centered his interests on three-dimensional design. He has been included in many galleries, mostly in the Western United States, and has won many awards for his sculpture and silver work, both nationally and internationally. In 1987 he spent time with a master bit and spur maker and learned the ancient art of decorative gear-making for horses and horsemen. He now produces several one-of-a-kind pieces yearly. While in college he spent every spare moment in Colorado, starting with rebuilding old log cabins, including work on the movie Cat Ballou (in Cañon City) in the mid 1960s, and spent a winter working at the Climax Mine in Leadville. He and his wife, Linda, now live in Montrose, Colorado. Added together they have six children and nine grandchildren. Robert spends considerable time outdoors observing nature. This, coupled with his love of and appreciation for animals, is his inspiration. His style can best be described as an interpretation of motion and overall form, transcribed through the individual material he is working with at the time. He enjoys carving wood, hand-forming and welding metals, silverwork, and one-of-a-kind castings in lost wax or sand. A Look at Representative Work![]() ![]() ![]() |
