Bold landscapes with dramatic lighting are the dominant theme of Barbara Kendrick's paintings. She and her husband moved to the Ridgway area in 1999, but for over 20 years they have enjoyed hiking, exploring, and photographing the high country and canyon lands of the Southwest. Working from her Pleasant Valley studio, she paints impressions of those experiences.

Her works have been included in a number of local, regional, and national juried shows and exhibitions including the Montrose Visual Arts Guild annual shows, Alpine Artist's Holiday shows, and the 2007 Gateway to Imagination National Show in Farmington, New Mexico. She has received several awards, including two first place ribbons. She was invited to participate in the Second Annual Hampton Inn Invitational Show in March, 2008, a show featuring twelve notable artists from across Colorado's Western Slope. In August, 2007, she was among those selected by the Montrose Visual Arts Guild to exhibit work at the Colorado Symphony Orchestra summer concert. She was also featured in a three-person show at the Ridgway Public Library in the fall of 2006. Her works reside in both private and corporate collections across the country, including the XTO Energy Corporation of Fort Worth, and can be seen at Around the Corner Art Gallery in Montrose and Sunrise Southwest Gallery in Ridgway, Colorado.

"I have worked with oils, inks, and acrylics, but pastels are my first love because they are pure color, and for me they truly capture the luminous atmospheric effects we see here in the Southwest."

Artists who have inspired Barbara include Thomas Moran and members of the California Impressionists School of Art, particularly Guy Rose, John Gamble, and Arthur Grover Rider. She has also participated in workshops instructed by a number of contemporary artists including Morgan Samual Price, Bruce Gomez, Richard McKinley, Kevin McPherson, Mike Simpson, and Sara Oakley.
